Sterling Silver Small Polished Wampum Pendant

A hand selected oval shaped wampum shell that I found on Nauset Beach in Orleans, MA is hand polished for this unique pendant.  It is bezel set into a hand fabricated sterling silver setting.  The pendant is approximately 1/2 inch (1.3 cm) wide by 7/8 inches (2.2 cm) tall.  (Chains & cords are sold separately.)

Wampum, treasured for its beautiful hues and stripes of purples and whites, is formed from fragments of quahog seashells that nature has tumbled smooth.  Historically, it was used by Native Americans of Cape Cod and other coastal areas for both bargaining and decorative purposes.
