Sterling Silver Port/Starboard Garnet Propeller Studs

$248.00

Inspired by my family’s marine engineers, I created fun sterling silver propeller earrings with red and green garnets. The propellers are modelled after 3 blade michigan wheel sailboat propellers in miniaturized versions for these unique stud earrings.  They are set with red (Mozambique) garnet for port and green (Tsavorite) garnet for the starboard side.  Each propeller is approximately 3/8 inches (0.8 cm) wide by 1/4 (0.7 cm) tall and has a hypoallergenic 14K gold double notched post with a standard sterling silver butterfly back.

If you’re a land lubber like me, here’s a little bit of a further explanation for the ship terms... The port and starboard of a ship refer to the left side and the right side of the boat. They have corresponding colored lights stationed along the ship to identify the sides as well. Red is for the port (left) side and green is for the starboard (right) side.

Interestingly, propellers are the insignia for the uniforms of marine engineers. This symbol helps differentiate the engineering department from the deck (navigation) department for both the merchant marines and the navy.
